Extended Day Program
Extended Day is an after school program which provides 100 students in Kindergarten through 2nd grade extended help in developing reading and math skills. Students in grades 3 through 8 have the opportunity to receive extra preparation for the CMT's.
The day begins with an afternoon snack, and then the children accepted to the program begin their academic session. The academic session will run from 2:45 pm until 3:30 pm. During this time, students in grades Kindergarten through 2nd will continue working on reading and math skills. Students in grades 3 through 8 will utilize CMT Rally, and the Journey to Success curriculum.
Students will have the opportunity to be a part of 2 studio workshops per session with a local artist. The workshops include activities in drama, martial arts, hip-hop dance, drill team, yoga, graphic art, vocal lessons, drumming, puppetry, and stage crafting.
The Extended Day program runs Monday through Thursday from 2:30 pm until 4:30 pm. The program has 3 sessions; one 10 week session and two 11 week sessions. When a new session begins the students are placed into 2 new activities so that they aren’t repeating the same activity throughout the year.

PEAC
Program Purpose
PEAC is an academic enrichment and mentoring program. It is a partnership between
Hartford Public School, Our Piece of the Pie and Northeast Utilities/CL&P.
It is a collaboration to improve the literacy skill development of children
at risk for low academic achievement at Richard J. Kinsella Magnet School
of Performing Arts.
The PEAC program is for students in grades K-3rd and it focuses on the following:
P= Parental Involvement
E= Etiquette
A= Academic Enrichment
C= Character Development
Reading tutors/school days
Hartford AmeriCorps members provide tutoring sessions to students who are referred
for academic support. The Kinsella students that are experiencing difficulties
learning to read will receive daily one on one tutoring designed to reinforce
classroom instruction. These services are performed during school hours providing
intensive reading support.
After school tutoring
The focus of the after school tutoring is on reading, enhanced by other extra
curricular and character education components. Four Kinsella teachers direct
these activities for the students who have been referred to the program.
Hartford AmeriCorps members provide support.
Mentor Program
Employees from Northeast Utilities, Connecticut Light and Power, and other
community partners serve as mentors to the Kinsella students that participate
in the PEAC Program. Mentors meet with the students one hour per week, assisting
students with reading while developing relationships through role modeling.
